Actions You Can Take When Your Electric Door Lock Isn't Working

It can be incredibly frustrating when your electronic lock won't let you in, whether it's because the battery has died or there's something wrong with the lock itself. But don't worry, you can do a few things to try and get back into your home. This blog post reviews some of the best tips for getting back into your house when your electronic lock doesn't work. Keep reading for more information!

1. Check the batteries

The best place to start is by looking at the power supply. If the batteries are dead, the lock will not be able to function properly. You need to double-check that the batteries are installed correctly. If they're not, the lock may not be able to read the code correctly. If the batteries are dead, replacing them may fix the issue.

2. Check the alignment

If the batteries are fine, the next thing you should look at is the alignment of the lock. If it's not aligned properly, it won't be able to engage with the bolt correctly, and the door will not open. You can usually tell if the lock is misaligned if you can see that the bolt is misaligned with the slot in the door frame. In most cases, you can fix this problem by simply adjusting the position of the lock. However, if this issue keeps occurring, you may need to replace the lock entirely.

3. Clean the sensors

Another possible reason why your electronic lock won't let you in is that the sensors are dirty. The sensors detect if the door is open or closed and need to be cleaned for the lock to work properly. You can clean the sensors with a soft cloth, or a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol. Once you've cleaned the sensors, try unlocking your door again. With any luck, it should now work smoothly.

4. Try a different keycard

If you are using a keycard to enter your home, try using a different keycard. Sometimes, keycards can become demagnetised and will no longer work with electronic locks. If you have another keycard, try using that one to see if it works better.

5. Call a locksmith

If none of these tips works, then you may need to call a locksmith. They will be able to assess the door and work out the cause of the issue, before carrying out a repair so that you can gain entry into your home.
